I don't think anyone's reading this, but I'm going to keep putting stuff up here anyway. This is a later picture of the band. I can tell, because the face turned away from the camera is Rick Vena's; he played drums towards the end. The rest, clockwise, are Matt S., Matt R., Mary, Wally, and myself.

I am reading this. Wannabe Texans are one of my favorite bands ever.

I am trying to remember the places I saw the Wannabe Texans. It is so long ago that it is hard to remember. I can specifically remember Merchant's opening up for Red House Painters.

I also seem to remember that the last time I saw them was Chameleon in spring '91, esp playing "I Found That Essence Rare." However, after all this time I may have the details wrong.

I know I saw them a bunch more times, but memories not specific, and it should be pointed out that alcohol was generally involved.

I am hoping Bradley or somebody can post the "Tree With Roots" tracks. I have the cassette, melting out in the Mojave somewhere, but I am unhopeful of ever recovering it. Miss the Muskrats on that, too, but of course the Wannabes rule it.

"John Cougar El Ess Dee, yeah!"

David,
I don't have a copy of the "Devouring Our Roots" compilation anymore. I think it had "Rich girl" and maybe "I cut myself" on it? I don't remember. We liked all those bands, but somehow didn't manage to keep the record.
Your memory is probably better than mine, but I think we did "I Found that Essence Rare" at the Kennel Club, which became the Vis on Divisadero. You're right about the alcohol.

Yeah, Devouring Our Roots had Rich Girl and I Cut Myself, plus tracks by Penelope Houston, the Longshoremen, the Bedlam Rovers, the Muskrats and the Terminators of Endearment. I also remember a split 7" with the Rovers that had Las Vegas Ain't No Place, although I'm not sure if that was the same as the album version. In any case, your generosity is much appreciated, Brad.
